The addition of lines to the bottom half of the circle gave it a more spherical shape and added some value.

Look at these forms and see how the addition of contour lines gives the illusion of legs stepping in opposite directions.
I didn’t change the angles on the forms. I drew two V-shaped figures and added the contour lines, ellipses, and a curved line on the bottoms. Viola! The contour lines gave the illusion of two bodies walking in front of each other.
Simple contour lines can add dynamics to your drawing
Contour lines communicate the shape of the object and adds value to it as well.
